Coolest Song In The World! AGAIN! Yay!

February 01st, 2010 | Category: The Dollyrots

Happy February 2010!

I don’t know why…it’s just that I got to flip my calendar and I’m pretty excited about this year with the new record and stuff.. .yada yada. (I can’t believe I typed “Yada Yada.”)

The Beach Boy/Dumb single (buy it on digitally or on red vinyl HERE is you haven’t already) is doing pretty good! Little Steven chose CA Beach Boy as “The Coolest Song In The World” on The Underground Garage last week! Soooo cool! Thanks to Little Steven!

You also might have seen us play it on The Price Is Right…or heard it on KROQ when Rodney Bingenheimer’s spun it…or The Underground Garage when Drew Carey’s played it!

Yes. We’re excited. Just wait till the whole record comes out!!!! IIIIEEEEEEE!

We’ve also been spending a nice chunk of time working on ‘GirlTrash All Night Long’ the movie! Lots of fun but some very late nights! You see the movie takes place at night…one long night and so all the filming is at night… yep. There’s nothing like chasing a giant 1982 Chevy Nova around the lot of the Fonda at 5 in the morning while screaming at the tops of our lungs! A bunch of crazy scenes..it’s going to be a really fun film.  Be sure to keep your eyes peeled in the coming days for calls out for extras.  You might be able to be in some scenes with us too!

And…We just added a show for tonight in LA! Our pals from Killola needed us to fill in for them because Lisa’s too sick to chirp for you. So here are the deets. Looks like a great night…FREE show, open bar, other bands are cool! WOOOO!  What more can you ask for (that isn’t  totally illegal)!  See deets below:

Hope to see you all soon! We’re booking tour dates and have begun to add a few shows around the country so hang in there.

With whisky kisses,

Kelly & the boys!

p.s. be our pal on Facebook!

Happeeee Hollydays!

December 19th, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots

Dear friends of The Dollyrots,

Merry Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus, Winter Solstice, Boxing Day (etc) and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope your 2010 is the best ever!

A few holiday tips:
Booze
Drugstores are great places to buy last minute presents
You can always pretend your sick if you need alone time
Easy on the sugar
Try to have fun
AND PLEASE!
Don’t drink and drive!

If you’re still looking for gifts I finally set up an Etsy shop, not much in it but if someone needs a scarf made by me then you’re set. You could also visit the store at Dollyrots.com or the Blackheart Records store. They have awesome new Christmas vinyl with our version of “Santa Baby!” So cool. And for the newer Dollyrots’ fans… we have “Eat My Heart Out” our first album, up on iTunes again!

I wish we had a release date or tour dates to announce but it’s not set in stone yet and I don’t want to jump the gun again! If it happens before the holiday break I’ll make an edit and post it here.

We sure love you guys! Thank you for always supporting us and regularly reminding us why we’re doing this crazy band thing! May 2010 bring happiness, healthiness and great success!

With the most sincere kisses,
Kelly (& Luis & Chris & Fuzzy & Quito!)

ps: I didn’t have time to put up my tree but this is how it looked in ’06

Almost time for a drumroll…

August 26th, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots

Alrighty now (read it out loud like a leprechaun),
First, thanks to Joy for this pic. I wish Quito had poodle hair so I could make him look like this:
Poodle Panda LOVE
So okay. Here’s the scoop. The record is done, this you know. Just a couple knob turns up to 11 and we’ll have more info for you. We’ve decided on a title but we like to change our minds a lot so until the final version of the artwork is sent to the manufacturer and we have no other option we’re going to keep it bottled up inside. Trust me it’s not easy. And somehow we have enough songs tracked for almost two records so there will be B-sides galore. One day really REALLY soon we’ll announce the track listing, title and release date. I promise! I know I said that a week ago but it’s so close!
Until then… We’re coming up with some really neat ways to connect with you AND get you the new record. Yes, record meaning vinyl too! There’s also web re-design, marketing plans, photos and video OH stuff too. It’s a pretty busy time and we can’t wait to get you all involved. If you have any ideas feel free to speak up. Thanks for all the tour stop requests!  We’ve been making a list and will check it thrice! RAAAAAHHHHH!
I’ve also been doing my best to catch up on messages and other random stuff for you freaks. Myspace messages are finally ALL caught up but email and postcards are a whole ‘nother monster… I’m working on it. Sadly, when I switched computers I lost a pretty huge chunk of email to the Mac gremlins and as a result lost some of your notes. So forgive me. I answer everything eventually but those may be lost forever… please don’t take it personally if you’re one of the unlucky few.
One of the other things I’ve been working on is bass TAB! This one is for Gregg in Minnesota! I guess I’ll do all the songs eventually but request what you want and I’ll prioritize accordingly. If you don’t know how to play bass yet get off your butt and play along. I’ll help you. Or you can harass Luis for guitar TAB or Chris for drum lessons. Either way if you have an inkling… DO IT. Nobody’s going to do it for you and then what? HUh? Yeah. That’s what I thought.
If you ever have questions about songs please ask away. It’s the most important part right? Why doesn’t anyone ever ask about the songs?
Nobody Wants You... Bass TAB

And I’m going to Florida next week. If you want pics check my Twitter updates! I’m teaching Quito to swim.

I’m going olde skool because the Myspace link thing stinks like bigfoot’s jockstrap.

Upteedates…

May 01st, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots

Figured it was time for an update… I’ve been quite distracted by things… Nice weather, twitter, Quito, upcoming tour, trip to FL for a Humane Society Benefit and visit with the family, swine flu scares (it was just food poisoning) and oh yeah the NEW ALBUM.

So here’s where it’s at. We’ve officially recorded 15 songs. And we love all of them. We’re looking at 12 songs for the record and the rest will be bonus tracks for b-sides or exclusive downloads and stuff. This record has been so much fun to make and write! (see older blogs for deets) Starting was easy this time, Luis has Pro Tools down and I’m happy in the Garage Band world. We have tons of demos and are still writing songs… so Blackheart is just going to have to cut us off at some point. Or maybe we’ll just keep recording and put the next next record out all quick-like!

We have a little time right now so we’ve been doing a lot of writing and some writing with other people which is super fun. Luis and I have been doing this band together for geeze, like 10 years and it’s really refreshing and inspiring to have other people in the mix. Especially people we love. So far we did some writing with Kay Hanley (who I have loved forever!) and Tina Parol (hilarious and talented new pal). There’s just something cool that happens when there’s a new and cool person in the mix and it’s not just Luis and me. You know how you just get kind of comfortable with the people closest to you… then you talk to someone new and you’re like, “Oh yeah. That’s right. I’m kinda cool. I like lots of stuff I almost forgot about.” Or is that just me?

Whatever. So that’s where we’re at. Just a few tweaks and the record is done. But then you have to wait till SEPTEMBER to get it. I know. I know. But records take time to put together! We still have to do artwork, layout, photos, video oh (ever notice I can’t just type “video”?), new website, new myspace, ear transplants, and if you’re really upset blame “the press” they require a 3 month lead time on these things… so you see there’s a lot to do. AND we’re going to be touring… just a little.

We’re heading out in a couple weeks for a SW run with The Action Design! It’s the “Hot Sauce In Your Eyes Tour!” Ooooowie! Yeah. And, we’ll be playing ALL the new songs. We’ve been rehearsing the crap out of them and are going to rotate in some different ones each night! I was considering printing out some sing-along books but I don’t know… I still forget, I mean, make up words on the fly sometimes and then you would ALL know. It wouldn’t just be for the REAL fans. Teeehee.

So yeah. That’s it for today. I’m using a “vintage” phone (broke another) so I don’t have any fun phone pics for you so I stole one from Luis. This is him in Ecuador (at his first home) next to a “Flintstones” style dumbbell. I never thought of Luis as a Bam Bam. Right?

The sun goes down and I don’t even know…

February 03rd, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots

We’re at this very moment working on the sweetest love song ever written. I know this because it’s true. You’ll see.

We’ve been very productive these few days, and had some fun too. Some basic tracks are forming… of them: Some Girls, Om Nom, A Little Messed Up, Crazy From You, Pour Tous Jours… It’s so good. I’m so excited.

In other news (see… we don’t really have any. We’ve been in this dark, spiritual, cool, window-less, clock-less space for days in a row) have you seen Basement Horse? And Luis and I have been more active on Twitter. I read about Daschel and the new kidney removal technique which prompted me to make sure my Organ Donorinfo was up to date.

Yep. This is life in the studio. Time to get some doggie smooches, drink a beer, then some coffee, and rock a duet. Seriously. Don’t you wish you were here!

I will update soon, with pictures even,

Will it be a masterpiece?

February 01st, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots,Uncategorized

Yes, yes of course it will!

Tomorrow we head in to “officially” start album 3 with Chris Testa (worked on Eat My Heart Out and Because I’m Awesome too). We have been creating this record diligently since we got home from tour in August… demo’s, re-writing, transposing galore! I think we’re ready. We’ve never been this prepared before heading into the studio.

Even our guitars are more prepared this time! We dropped them off with Greg Leon, guitarist and guitar technician extraordinaire yesterday. Then after a little lecture (these are among the worst I’ve ever seen… you really need to take care of these etc) this afternoon we were all on our way!

Lots of cool stuff happened and happening… lets try to remember… other than our music… Obama is our president, The Breeders @ The Wiltern, Cheap Trick @ House of Blues, The Dickies & Blockage @
Punk Rock Social
, The Bodies @ Punk Rock Bowling (where our team, The Punk Rock Socialists placed 23rd in the “B” League! Trust me that’s grrrrreeeat!), The Melismatics @ The Viper Room and The Muffs @ Spaceland with US and Calamity Magnet! Went to Florida for Christmas and New Years, took Quito to some dog parks, sorta caught up on my email and myspace, watched some car chases, bleached the crap out of my hair, cleaned my closet, stuff I can’t remember right now… you know.

So I’ll leave you for tonight with toughts of new songs and The Dollyrots in your town (or as close as we can get). We’ll be in Austin for SXSW and we’re booking some South West dates for May with The Action Design… We will see the rest of you soon enough! New record out BY June!

Ps: Luis is on Twitter, sometimes.
Pps:Chris and I are on Utterli, KellyO, Chris, sometimes.
Ppps: I’m gonna start Twit Pics and drop Utterli asap… so many TWITTERERERS
pppp: MARKY RAMONE
LIKES US!

Nighty night. I have work to do… but pics first.

Luis, Mamie, Me and President Obama

and what I’ll be doing, boy do I need a new phone camera…

Your vote counts… even if you don’t live in a battleground state!

October 02nd, 2008 | Category: The Dollyrots

Hey my little pundits!

So I just watched the VP debate… then promptly called my dad in Florida to talk about it. My parent’s are registered democrats (I’m an independent) and usually have voted democratically BUT for a little while there I think they were tempted to vote for McCain. Which I understood to a point… I think older voters might think his experience and hero status can keep them safe. But my parents are smart cookies, and now realize Obama/Biden is the best option. This is an amazing time, I mean our options include an black man for president and a woman for vice president. Generically this is so cool. But please learn about the candidates and what they stand for. The information is all over the place. Don’t trust just one source like Fox news, or even Bill Maher to be fair… although I love him. And for those of you who are obsessed with poll watching check out this site, FiveThirtyEight.com. The site combines ALL of the polling results and runs simulations to make predictions. It’s addictive. If you’re weird I guess…

It’s funny how obsessed I’ve felt with informing my parents about the candidates. I feel like living in California my vote doesn’t count so I guess I was trying to vote through them. But after receiving my “Official Voter Information Guide” I realized I had a lot to decide before hitting my little booth next month. There are 12 Propositions on the ballot in California, all of them very VERY important!

For example:

*Voting yes on Prop 2 means starting in 2015 pregnant pigs, calves raised for veal, and egg-laying hens have to be confined in a way that allows them to turn around, lie down, stand-up and spread their limbs or wings. (uhhh PLEASE!)

*Voting yes on Prop 4 would mean that a pregnant minor’s physician would legally have to notify her legal guardian 48 hours prior to performing an abortion. (Great, so instead of going to a doctor she will sneak around and find some quack to chop her up.)

*Voting yes on Prop 8 means marriage between same sex couples would not be valid or recognized in California. (Unbelievable.)

AND there are more, and if you don’t read them correctly and hopefully ahead of time, it’s not hard to accidentally vote in support of something you actually oppose. You live in a country where you actually have a voice, it’s not just to use when the presidential election comes around every 4 years. All of these ballot measures are important. It’s also important to elect the representatives that most share your beliefs. You do have beliefs right?

SO please make sure you’re registered to vote! In some states the registration deadline is THIS SATURDAY! There is a ton of information at Declare Yourself and, of course, Rock The Vote. You can make sure you’re registered, make sure you don’t miss the deadline, register, find your polling place etc. It’s easy and your voice does matter. Please encourage your friends and family to vote.

On a side note… writing had been going great! We played a bunch of new stuff at our Viper Room shows and are still going at it. Your messages and comments are so much fun! Keep them coming and we promise we’ll be back at it all soon SOON SOON! We love and miss you and your nibbles, squeezes and extra stingy hi-fives.

Vote.

Go WEST my friend!

August 12th, 2008 | Category: The Dollyrots

So yesterday started out BEEEEEE-U-TEEE-FULLY!

I FINALLY got to visit Prairie Dog Town! I’ve known this place existed for about 5 years and have wanted SO badly to visit but we always pass it when it’s closed. I’ve been staring at the little brochure for over a year now… see that yellow thing? Yeah, that’s above my head, where I sleep on tour. An every day reminder that SOMEDAY I will get there.
Photobucket

It was cool. The owner, Larry was quite a character. Rattlesnake wrangler and teller of some pretty funny jokes. Apparently the place is for sale. He and his wife are just looking for the right person before they retire. Hummmm. I never thought I’d end up in Kansas but it is quiet, I could talk to travelers all the time, maybe we could build a studio…. I don’t know. Pretty tempting. Most of the animals are “….abandoned and rescued creatures, or unloved freaks who find companionship and a meal.“ My kind of critters…

The strangest part of the place for me wasn’t the 6-legged cow with two butt-holes but that the prairie dogs could come and go and it seemed like the little families within the group (100s if not 1000s) all had different places they liked. Some of them liked the dry cracked area by the entrance, some liked the poo filled cow and buffalo area, some liked the area by the pond, some liked it just outside the fence, and some hung out by the chickens. I personally would’ve set up shop by the pond. Even in it’s green algaeness… or maybe with the piglets. They were so excitable and SMART!

Here are a few pics, I won’t over do it… and we have video… this video thing might not happen till we get home and have a few hours to get it all started.

A lazy lazy boy…
Lazy Days

BABY! I have a video of this little interaction…
Baby and a biscuit.

Mrs. 2-butts on the ground there….
The 5 and 6-legged steers.

And the 8,000 pound Prairie Dog!
Blending In!

As we drove away we passed huge sunflower farms… they yellow blur = sunflowers…
Kansas sunflowers...

So the day’s adventures continued… picked-up some hitchhikers, well broken down cyclists. I really thought Luis was joking when he yelled, “Hey Fuzzy, wake Kelly up. We’re going to pick-up three sweaty cyclists.” These three boys had ridden all the way from DC, their final destination was Denver and they ran out of tire tubes 50 miles out. We asked if they were disappointed and they said, “No. Please just give us a ride.” So we did. They were super sweet and cute and looked way older than they were… I guess that’s what a beard and riding a bicycle for 33 days will do to you! I can’t wait for our paths to cross again. Hope they find their way home without too much excitement!

Then after that… delicious food at Taki’s, a dress/gift in a bag (yeah, I wore it!), and two bad-ass bands in my favorite Denver venue!
The Allergies and Red Stinger at Bender’s Tavern.

After the show I was complaining a bit about our drive. I mean, 1100 miles and not long enough to do it! When someone volunteered to help out. So we said, okay, that makes 4 hitchers in 1 day. He must remain unnamed for now… at least until he gets fired because his boss finds out he’s NOT at his favorite uncle’s funeral.

So yeah. I’m now in Utah. We haven’t stopped except for a 2 hour nap (6-8am) at a truck stop and of course… Taco Bell to go.

We will be in California today and I have to tell you… that makes me very VERY happy.

Utah! We're booking it!
