Dear friends of The Dollyrots,

Merry Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus, Winter Solstice, Boxing Day (etc) and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope your 2010 is the best ever!

A few holiday tips:
Booze
Drugstores are great places to buy last minute presents
You can always pretend your sick if you need alone time
Easy on the sugar
Try to have fun
AND PLEASE!
Don’t drink and drive!

If you’re still looking for gifts I finally set up an Etsy shop, not much in it but if someone needs a scarf made by me then you’re set. You could also visit the store at Dollyrots.com or the Blackheart Records store. They have awesome new Christmas vinyl with our version of “Santa Baby!” So cool. And for the newer Dollyrots’ fans… we have “Eat My Heart Out” our first album, up on iTunes again!

I wish we had a release date or tour dates to announce but it’s not set in stone yet and I don’t want to jump the gun again! If it happens before the holiday break I’ll make an edit and post it here.

We sure love you guys! Thank you for always supporting us and regularly reminding us why we’re doing this crazy band thing! May 2010 bring happiness, healthiness and great success!

With the most sincere kisses,
Kelly (& Luis & Chris & Fuzzy & Quito!)

ps: I didn’t have time to put up my tree but this is how it looked in ’06

Upteedates…

May 01st, 2009 | Category: The Dollyrots

Figured it was time for an update… I’ve been quite distracted by things… Nice weather, twitter, Quito, upcoming tour, trip to FL for a Humane Society Benefit and visit with the family, swine flu scares (it was just food poisoning) and oh yeah the NEW ALBUM.

So here’s where it’s at. We’ve officially recorded 15 songs. And we love all of them. We’re looking at 12 songs for the record and the rest will be bonus tracks for b-sides or exclusive downloads and stuff. This record has been so much fun to make and write! (see older blogs for deets) Starting was easy this time, Luis has Pro Tools down and I’m happy in the Garage Band world. We have tons of demos and are still writing songs… so Blackheart is just going to have to cut us off at some point. Or maybe we’ll just keep recording and put the next next record out all quick-like!

We have a little time right now so we’ve been doing a lot of writing and some writing with other people which is super fun. Luis and I have been doing this band together for geeze, like 10 years and it’s really refreshing and inspiring to have other people in the mix. Especially people we love. So far we did some writing with Kay Hanley (who I have loved forever!) and Tina Parol (hilarious and talented new pal). There’s just something cool that happens when there’s a new and cool person in the mix and it’s not just Luis and me. You know how you just get kind of comfortable with the people closest to you… then you talk to someone new and you’re like, “Oh yeah. That’s right. I’m kinda cool. I like lots of stuff I almost forgot about.” Or is that just me?

Whatever. So that’s where we’re at. Just a few tweaks and the record is done. But then you have to wait till SEPTEMBER to get it. I know. I know. But records take time to put together! We still have to do artwork, layout, photos, video oh (ever notice I can’t just type “video”?), new website, new myspace, ear transplants, and if you’re really upset blame “the press” they require a 3 month lead time on these things… so you see there’s a lot to do. AND we’re going to be touring… just a little.

We’re heading out in a couple weeks for a SW run with The Action Design! It’s the “Hot Sauce In Your Eyes Tour!” Ooooowie! Yeah. And, we’ll be playing ALL the new songs. We’ve been rehearsing the crap out of them and are going to rotate in some different ones each night! I was considering printing out some sing-along books but I don’t know… I still forget, I mean, make up words on the fly sometimes and then you would ALL know. It wouldn’t just be for the REAL fans. Teeehee.

So yeah. That’s it for today. I’m using a “vintage” phone (broke another) so I don’t have any fun phone pics for you so I stole one from Luis. This is him in Ecuador (at his first home) next to a “Flintstones” style dumbbell. I never thought of Luis as a Bam Bam. Right?

Yes, yes of course it will!

Tomorrow we head in to “officially” start album 3 with Chris Testa (worked on Eat My Heart Out and Because I’m Awesome too). We have been creating this record diligently since we got home from tour in August… demo’s, re-writing, transposing galore! I think we’re ready. We’ve never been this prepared before heading into the studio.

Even our guitars are more prepared this time! We dropped them off with Greg Leon, guitarist and guitar technician extraordinaire yesterday. Then after a little lecture (these are among the worst I’ve ever seen… you really need to take care of these etc) this afternoon we were all on our way!

Lots of cool stuff happened and happening… lets try to remember… other than our music… Obama is our president, The Breeders @ The Wiltern, Cheap Trick @ House of Blues, The Dickies & Blockage @
Punk Rock Social
, The Bodies @ Punk Rock Bowling (where our team, The Punk Rock Socialists placed 23rd in the “B” League! Trust me that’s grrrrreeeat!), The Melismatics @ The Viper Room and The Muffs @ Spaceland with US and Calamity Magnet! Went to Florida for Christmas and New Years, took Quito to some dog parks, sorta caught up on my email and myspace, watched some car chases, bleached the crap out of my hair, cleaned my closet, stuff I can’t remember right now… you know.

So I’ll leave you for tonight with toughts of new songs and The Dollyrots in your town (or as close as we can get). We’ll be in Austin for SXSW and we’re booking some South West dates for May with The Action Design… We will see the rest of you soon enough! New record out BY June!

Ps: Luis is on Twitter, sometimes.
Pps:Chris and I are on Utterli, KellyO, Chris, sometimes.
Ppps: I’m gonna start Twit Pics and drop Utterli asap… so many TWITTERERERS
pppp: MARKY RAMONE
LIKES US!

Nighty night. I have work to do… but pics first.

Go WEST my friend!

August 12th, 2008 | Category: The Dollyrots

So yesterday started out BEEEEEE-U-TEEE-FULLY!

I FINALLY got to visit Prairie Dog Town! I’ve known this place existed for about 5 years and have wanted SO badly to visit but we always pass it when it’s closed. I’ve been staring at the little brochure for over a year now… see that yellow thing? Yeah, that’s above my head, where I sleep on tour. An every day reminder that SOMEDAY I will get there.

It was cool. The owner, Larry was quite a character. Rattlesnake wrangler and teller of some pretty funny jokes. Apparently the place is for sale. He and his wife are just looking for the right person before they retire. Hummmm. I never thought I’d end up in Kansas but it is quiet, I could talk to travelers all the time, maybe we could build a studio…. I don’t know. Pretty tempting. Most of the animals are “….abandoned and rescued creatures, or unloved freaks who find companionship and a meal.“ My kind of critters…

The strangest part of the place for me wasn’t the 6-legged cow with two butt-holes but that the prairie dogs could come and go and it seemed like the little families within the group (100s if not 1000s) all had different places they liked. Some of them liked the dry cracked area by the entrance, some liked the poo filled cow and buffalo area, some liked the area by the pond, some liked it just outside the fence, and some hung out by the chickens. I personally would’ve set up shop by the pond. Even in it’s green algaeness… or maybe with the piglets. They were so excitable and SMART!

Here are a few pics, I won’t over do it… and we have video… this video thing might not happen till we get home and have a few hours to get it all started.

A lazy lazy boy…
Lazy Days

BABY! I have a video of this little interaction…
Baby and a biscuit.

Mrs. 2-butts on the ground there….
The 5 and 6-legged steers.

And the 8,000 pound Prairie Dog!
Blending In!

As we drove away we passed huge sunflower farms… they yellow blur = sunflowers…
Kansas sunflowers...

So the day’s adventures continued… picked-up some hitchhikers, well broken down cyclists. I really thought Luis was joking when he yelled, “Hey Fuzzy, wake Kelly up. We’re going to pick-up three sweaty cyclists.” These three boys had ridden all the way from DC, their final destination was Denver and they ran out of tire tubes 50 miles out. We asked if they were disappointed and they said, “No. Please just give us a ride.” So we did. They were super sweet and cute and looked way older than they were… I guess that’s what a beard and riding a bicycle for 33 days will do to you! I can’t wait for our paths to cross again. Hope they find their way home without too much excitement!

Then after that… delicious food at Taki’s, a dress/gift in a bag (yeah, I wore it!), and two bad-ass bands in my favorite Denver venue!
The Allergies and Red Stinger at Bender’s Tavern.

After the show I was complaining a bit about our drive. I mean, 1100 miles and not long enough to do it! When someone volunteered to help out. So we said, okay, that makes 4 hitchers in 1 day. He must remain unnamed for now… at least until he gets fired because his boss finds out he’s NOT at his favorite uncle’s funeral.

So yeah. I’m now in Utah. We haven’t stopped except for a 2 hour nap (6-8am) at a truck stop and of course… Taco Bell to go.

We will be in California today and I have to tell you… that makes me very VERY happy.

Utah! We're booking it!
